How Linemen Opt In to SMS Messaging

Last updated: May 6, 2026

CrewCall is a B2B platform used by utility contractors to send storm callout and workforce SMS messages to their own employees. This page explains exactly how those linemen consent to receive messages, and what protections are in place.

Who Sends the Messages

Messages on the CrewCall platform are sent by utility contractors (CrewCall's customers) to utility linemen who work for that contractor. CrewCall LLC does not independently message linemen — we are the SaaS infrastructure the contractor uses to send messages to their own workforce.

How Consent Is Collected

Before a contractor can add a lineman's phone number to CrewCall, they are contractually required (per our Terms and Conditions) to collect explicit written consent through one of the following methods:

Method 1 — Employment Onboarding Form

When a lineman is hired by or contracted with the utility company, they complete a workforce intake form that includes the SMS consent language shown in the sample below. The signed form is retained by the contractor as proof of consent.

Method 2 — Standalone SMS Consent Form

For existing employees, contractors use a dedicated SMS consent form (same language as the sample below) signed and dated separately from the employment paperwork.

Method 3 — Recorded Verbal Consent (Limited Cases)

In storm-emergency situations where a lineman is already actively working a storm, contractors may obtain consent verbally and document the consent in writing immediately afterward. The lineman is sent a confirmation SMS with full opt-out instructions before any callout message.

Sample Consent Form Language

The following is the minimum consent language contractors must use when collecting consent from linemen. Contractors may customize the wording for their own workforce but must include all required disclosures.

This sample form represents the minimum standard. Each contractor administers consent collection within their own workforce processes and retains the signed records as proof.

What Contractors Agree To

By using CrewCall, every contractor agrees in our Terms and Conditions that they will:

Violation of these requirements results in immediate account suspension.

What Linemen Receive

Linemen who have opted in may receive messages such as:

Every message is sent from the contractor's CrewCall-assigned phone number and includes opt-out instructions.

How to Opt Out

A lineman can opt out at any time by:

Once opted out, the lineman is immediately removed from all CrewCall SMS communications. We notify the contractor that the lineman has opted out, and the contractor may not re-add the lineman without obtaining fresh, explicit written consent.
